Development of advanced mechatronic solutions for additive manufacturing

Abstract

This project is aimed at the study and implementation of advanced mechatronic systems for the process control of machines for FDM (fused deposition modelling) additive manufacturing. These systems will ensure greater dimensional accuracy and strength of 3D-printed components. Research will be focused on the study of the main electro-mechanical limits of state-of-art machines designed according to the state of the art, and on the development of integrated solutions for the performance improvement of the extrusion systems and of the kinematic chains that move them.

Project Goals

The main goals of this project are:

  • development of new three-dimensional handling architectures dedicated to medium-large size additive manufacturing;
  • development of new multi-material extrusion systems;
  • development of new machine calibration techniques.

In collaboration with: MarkOne.
